A floating floor is a wood or laminate floor that is not glued down to the subfloor or concrete of a home. Now a days, the wood flooring comes in a snap in lock or uni-click system that prevents the floor from moving around once it is installed. A floor underlayment or sound reducer is used underneath the floating wood floor and above the subfloor or concrete. Once the floating floor is installed, quarter round is used around the baseboards to hold the floor in place. Floating floors can be installed over existing flooring as long as the the surface is flat enough. What is laminate flooring?
Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product, fused together in the lamination process. Modern laminate flooring is made to mimic real wood flooring or engineered hardwood flooring for a fraction of the cost. Most laminate flooring has a protective coating that prevents stains.
